Spring Festival – What are you doing this Chinese New Year?

It’s almost Chinese New Year everyone!!! The time to eat lots of candy, sweets, and other yummy delights only available during the Chinese New Year also known as the Spring Festival. And don’t forget, the red money packet that we all beg for, haha! Yep, for those who don’t know – it’s a Chinese tradition during the Chinese New Year to hand out money in any amount in a red packet (also in gold packets) to people, usually children and young adults for good luck in the new year.

Red packets!

During this time, we attend a Lunar New Year Fair, everyone will purchase flowers, bamboos, food etc to welcome the new year. If you live in the Greater Toronto Area, the Fo Guang Shan Temple in Mississauga will have a Lunar New Year Fair where you can buy tons of goodies and there will be entertainment as well such as the Lion Dance! It’s on January 21,2012 from 11:00 am to 4:30pm and January 22, 2012 from 11:00 am – 2:00 am. If you decide to go, make sure to come by and say hi! I’ll be volunteering in the morning at the large kiosk in the middle of the fair on January 21, 2012! For more information about FGS or the fair itself, you can check out their website here. And here’s a copy of the festivities for the next week
